Yolanda Portillo makes a strong impression with ‘Lienzos de Colores’.

The singer and songwriter from Herencia (Ciudad Real), Yolanda Portillo, is more than excited about how things have been going for her since she released her latest work, ‘Lienzos de colores’, on the music market a few weeks ago. This album has solidified the career of an artist who has an impressive artistic background.

Throughout her life, Yolanda Portillo has worked with many artists, including Paco Ortega, Manuel Carrasco, Manolo Escobar, Mónica Molina, Luis Eduardo Aute, and José Mercé (the latter two in Giraluna). One of her most remarkable performances was with Amancio Prada. Over the years, her versatility and unique approach to her work have become her signature style, as she prefers “songs about real things.”

Yolanda Portillo stated that if she wrote a book about her life, ‘Lienzos de colores’ would be the chapter following her previous album, ‘Respirar.’ She recalls feeling like others sometimes decide how to live one’s life and create a strong foundation that only we should have the right to build. This can result in living a life that doesn’t make one happy but is deemed as the only alternative to living it oneself.

She describes the things that inspire her, which she gradually discovers, as “a breath of fresh air, a love that awakens you, tears down walls and unties ropes and shows you that life is painted with many more colors than you initially thought.” Consequently, she believes that regardless of what happens in love, its impact leaves its footprint, and its memory remains as it teaches a person.

Yolanda Portillo has been cultivating her singing voice since childhood, influenced undoubtedly by her father since solfeggio was a part of life at home. In 1996, she formed a duo with her cousin and won multiple awards, including the best band, the best unpublished song, and the best performance at the Festival Villa de Madrid, where bands like La Frontera emerged. Since then, her work has never ceased.

Yolanda Portillo has released several albums to date, including ‘Llora’ (2020) and ‘Eterna lluvia’ (2006), with ‘Lienzos de colores’ being her latest release.
