CEIP Carrasco Alcalde resumes its School Garden with winter crops.

The Primary School “CEIP Carrasco Alcalde” in Herencia has restarted the activity of its School Garden with the planting of typical winter season products. This educational initiative aims to involve students in the cultivation and care of the garden, promoting the value of agriculture and environmental awareness.

The students of the school, accompanied by the Rural Development councilor, María Eugenia Díaz Pacheco Galán, and the responsible gardener, Ramón Fernández Baíllo, have prepared the land for winter crops. Among the varieties planted are broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts, typical for this time of year.

A noteworthy feature of this activity is the participation of grandparents with the children, adding a valuable intergenerational component to the project. This collaboration allows for the transmission of knowledge and experiences between different generations, enriching the students’ learning.

Despite the arrival of winter, temperatures still allow for the harvesting of some typical summer products. This situation offers students the opportunity to observe the transition between seasons and understand the influence of climate on agriculture.

Educational Objectives

The School Garden of CEIP Carrasco Alcalde aims not only to teach cultivation techniques but also to instill important values:

1. Involvement in local agricultural development
2. Learning the complete process of planting, caring for, and harvesting
3. Promotion of respect for the environment
4. Appreciation of agriculture as a fundamental activity

This initiative presents itself as a valuable educational tool that combines practical learning, ecological awareness, and connection with Herencia’s agricultural traditions.
