‘El Consuelo’, from Herencia, won the award for Best Presentation of Manchego Sheep at Fercam.

On June 30th, the National Field Fair of Manzanares (Fercam) once again highlighted the Manchegan sheep breed in the livestock sector. In collaboration with the National Association of Select Sheep Breeders of the Manchegan Breed (Agrama), various events were held, including a technical presentation, a stallion auction, and morphological and efficiency and reliability contests in lineages. In this edition, ‘El Consuelo’ livestock from Herencia was awarded the prize for best presentation.

The jury of the morphological contest, composed of veterinarians Elvira Rodríguez and Mariano García from Agrama, awarded the best specimens in different categories. In the male section, the winners were, in first place, ‘Gantomar’ livestock from Consuegra (Toledo), followed by ‘Los Jiménez CB’ from Manzanares and Manuel Maestre Fuentes from Malagón.

In the category of ewes, ‘Quesos El Consuelo’ from Herencia won first prize, while Emilio Poveda e Hijos from Tomelloso and ‘Los Jiménez CB’ from Manzanares took second and third place, respectively. In the primals section, ‘El Consuelo’ repeated the first position, followed by ‘Los Jiménez CB’ from Manzanares and ‘Gantomar’ from Consuegra, the latter also receiving a special mention for the black variety.

The jury highlighted that the best overall presentation in the morphological contest was by ‘Quesos El Consuelo’ from Herencia, confirming their reputation at the fair.

Meanwhile, the VI Contest of Efficiency and Reliability in Genealogical Lineages was held, with Óscar García from Agrama as the judge. This contest is based on the percentage of cases analyzed and resolved in relation to the census.

Agropecuaria Parreño from Pozoamargo (Cuenca) won first prize with a 99.3% confirmation rate. They were followed by Julio Torremocha Marchante’s livestock from Socuéllamos, with a 98.7% confirmation rate, and ‘Esteso Díez, CB’ from San Clemente (Cuenca), with a 98.6% confirmation rate.

The awards for these contests were presented last Saturday at the Fercam Exhibition Hall during the award ceremony for the agri-food contests of the 62nd National Field Fair of Manzanares. This fair once again emphasized the importance of Manchegan sheep farming and the effort of local breeders to maintain high standards of quality and presentation in their specimens.
