The Herencia has announced the celebration of a novel culinary competition called “Cooking with Family” as part of the programming for the 2024 Fair and Festivities. The event, organized by the Department of Rural Development, will take place on Saturday, September 21 at 9:30 p.m. at the Fairground, specifically at the agri-food stand.
Objectives of the competition
This gastronomic contest aims to promote a unique family experience, while also fostering knowledge and appreciation for local gastronomic culture. Participants will be required to prepare dishes using local products from the region, highlighting the culinary richness of Herencia.
Competition rules
The competition is open to a maximum of 15 families, with 5 additional places in reserve. Each family team can consist of up to four members, as long as they are related up to the third degree. It is important to note that individuals connected to the restaurant sector are not allowed to participate.
Competition development
Participating teams will receive a package of local agri-food products and will have 60 minutes to prepare a cold dish of their choice. The dish can be an appetizer, a first course, a main course, or a dessert. The organization will provide the necessary utensils for the preparation of the dishes.
Evaluation criteria
A jury composed of members of the Herencia City Council, the Local Agricultural Council, and assigned personnel will evaluate the dishes based on various criteria:
- Time spent in preparation
- Order and cleanliness during preparation
- Use of the provided products
- Presentation of the dish
- Flavor of the dish
Prizes
The winners of the competition will receive attractive prizes:
- 1st Prize: Tasting Menu for 4 people at the Mascaraque Olivo Restaurant
- 2nd Prize: Package of local agri-food products
- 3rd Prize: Package of local agri-food products
The prize-giving ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 22 at the Plaza de España, during the celebration of the Grape Harvest Festival.
Registration
Those interested in participating can register from September 11 to 16 at the Casa de Herencia. The City Council encourages all families to participate in this event, which promises to be an enriching and fun experience for all lovers of local gastronomy.
