Today is a significant date in Herencia, where the iconic windmills will be illuminated in green in honor of International Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Day, with the intention of shedding light and raising awareness about this rare disease that affects many people worldwide.
In this special commemoration, the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Association has organized the sports event “Run Like Hero,” which has chosen Herencia as one of its venues to carry out this solidarity race. The initiative aims to unify efforts and steps in a single direction: to give visibility to people living with Phelan-McDermid Syndrome and to educate the general public about this condition.
The second edition of “Run Like Hero” has not only been a sports day, but also a day of solidarity. Under the heat of the cause, Mayor Sergio García-Navas, young Marco, a native of Herencia, and representatives of the Pheland Mcdermind Association gathered to perform the symbolic ribbon-cutting that kicked off this charity race. All proceeds from this event will be fully dedicated to the research of this disease and to direct support for individuals affected by the syndrome and their family members.
It was a morning full of emotions, sports, and solidarity, in which multiple activities tailored to all audiences and ages were deployed. Herencia once again demonstrated its commitment and sensitivity to causes that require joint efforts and the solidarity of the entire community.
