Inheritance promotes integration with the celebration of the Week of Different Abilities.

The City Council of Herencia, in a joint effort with the ‘El Picazuelo’ and ‘Carpe Diem’ centers and the collaboration of Laborvalía, has organized a series of activities to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3rd. This initiative, extended from November 27th to December 6th, aims to promote the social integration of the group and raise awareness about their rights and well-being in society.
The program of activities begins with the placement of a solidarity ribbon at the participating centers and on the balcony of the City Council, symbolizing the community’s commitment to the cause. In addition, the users of the ‘El Picazuelo’ and ‘Carpe Diem’ centers are preparing a Tik-Tok video to spread their message.
One of the highlighted events will be the institutional ceremony on November 28th in the Courtyard of the City Council, where a Decalogue of Good Practices will be presented to the Minor Mercedarian Seminar of the Friars, recognizing their support and collaboration with people with disabilities.
The schedule includes talks and experience sessions on projects for independent living for people with disabilities, aimed at both users and families. In addition, participants will have an active presence in the Plenary Session of the Provincial Council and at the Constitutional Act, along with other local schools.
This year also marks a special milestone: the ‘El Picazuelo’ occupational center comes of age. This anniversary provides the perfect opportunity to recognize and thank the family members, students, and teachers of the center for their dedication and constant effort in the fight for real and effective integration.
Conchi Rodríguez-Palancas, councilor of the area, has emphasized the importance of these initiatives. “The inclusion of people with disabilities means ensuring that they are valued members of our society, with the same opportunities to participate actively in all aspects of life. This week is an open invitation for all of us to learn to accept and value the differences and diversity of each individual”.
The Week of Different Abilities in Herencia is a clear demonstration of the town’s commitment to inclusion and respect for diversity, inviting the entire community to participate and contribute to the construction of a fair and equitable society.
