"Quhesalia" will once again host the celebration of the Day of the Shepherd. - Herencia (Ciudad Real) Spain

“Quhesalia” will once again host the celebration of the Day of the Shepherd.

The municipality of Herencia is preparing to celebrate Shepherd’s Day on June 29th. The commemoration, which is included in the events held annually in “Quhesalia,” will feature various activities organized by the Department of Rural Development, centered around the pastoral tradition, which has a strong presence in the locality.

“Quhesalia,” which was recently awarded the prize for Comarcal Work in the Corazón de la Mancha Awards by Onda Cero, will once again be the chosen location to highlight the importance of this ancient profession. During the first weekend of July, visitors will be able to enjoy a series of special activities.

On Saturday, participants will have the opportunity to attend a nighttime wine tasting paired with traditional dishes linked to the pastoral culture. The tasting, which will highlight the typical flavors and aromas of the region, will be guided by Tomás Fernández-Tejera Ramos, a winemaker with more than 30 years of experience as a technical director in various wineries.

On Sunday morning, attendees can take part in a guided bicycle tour of approximately 20 km, which will conclude in “Quhesalia.” Along the route, participants will be able to admire the beautiful rural landscape of the locality and learn more about the lives and work of the shepherds. Once in “Quhesalia,” they will have the opportunity to participate in an olive oil tasting and visit the Interpretation Center.

Tickets for both activities will be available starting on Thursday, June 22nd at the Casa de Herencia, from 10:00 to 14:00, and can also be purchased online through the AYMO platform.

The Department of Rural Development invites the community to participate in these events, which seek to highlight the importance of the local agri-food industry and pay tribute to key figures in its development, such as shepherds and cheesemakers. In addition, the Cheese Interpretation Center will be promoted with the aim of attracting visitors from other localities and allowing them to enjoy local products.
