The eighth edition of the “Immortals” reading project, an initiative organized by the Miguel de Cervantes Public Library in collaboration with the Youth Department and educational centers in Herencia, has kicked off with an event held in the Courtyard of the City Hall. This project, which has established itself as a reference in promoting youth reading, will involve the participation of 120 students from IES Hermógenes Rodríguez, the Seminario Menor, and the Colegio Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes.
Three finalist works compete to be “Immortal 2025”
The young participants will be responsible for reading and analyzing the three finalist works, selected for their literary quality and their ability to connect with the youth audience. The titles competing this year are:
– “Sand Witches” by María Tena: A novel that combines mystery and fantasy in a world full of secrets.
– “The Life Cycle of Night Butterflies” by Bruno Puelles: An introspective story that explores human connections and the fragility of life.
– “The Lighthouse on the Cliffs” by José Luis Martín Nogales: A work that blends drama and adventure with enveloping landscapes as a backdrop.
Each of these works will be read and discussed by the students, who will have the responsibility of choosing which one will be crowned “Immortal 2025.”
Encounters with authors: a unique experience
One of the strong points of the project is the possibility for young readers to interact directly with the authors of the finalist works. Throughout the course, three literary encounters will be organized, where students can firsthand learn the details and curiosities behind the books. During these sessions, participants will conduct pre-prepared interviews, fostering an enriching dialogue between writers and readers.
A project with institutional support
The inaugural event was attended by Councilor Aitor Gallego de la Sacristana, who gave words of encouragement to the young readers. The organization stressed the importance of projects like this in promoting a love for reading and developing critical skills in youth. “Initiatives like “Immortals” not only promote the habit of reading but also build a bridge between literature and younger generations, who are the future of our society,” the organization stated.
A literary event promising great moments
“Immortals” has become a space for cultural and educational gathering that not only promotes a love for reading but also strengthens the critical sense of young people and their ability to value literary works. As the course progresses, it is expected that this edition will offer memorable moments for both participants and authors, consolidating Herencia as an example in the promotion of literary culture.
The selection of the “Immortal 2025” will be the culmination of this exciting project, which continues to demonstrate that literature has a fundamental place in the education and personal development of the new generations.
