The III edition of Run Like Hero returns to Herencia, a charity event for the inclusion and visibility of Phelan-McDermid Syndrome. - Herencia (Ciudad Real) Spain

The III edition of Run Like Hero returns to Herencia, a charity event for the inclusion and visibility of Phelan-McDermid Syndrome.

After the success of the previous two editions, Herencia is getting ready to host the III edition of Run Like Hero on October 19th and 20th, a charity race aimed at raising awareness for Phelan-McDermid Syndrome. This event, besides being a sports event, is a festive and family gathering whose main objective is to raise awareness about this rare disease and raise funds for its research.

The origin of this initiative in Herencia dates back three years, when the parents of Marco, a five-year-old boy diagnosed with the syndrome, brought this international initiative promoted by the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Association to the town. The event includes a global virtual race and four in-person races in different cities in Spain, with Herencia being one of the venues along with Pamplona, Ortuella (Vizcaya), and Daimús (Valencia).

A weekend for inclusion and solidarity is being organized by the Herencia City Council and @fisiocarlosherencia, featuring two days full of activities for all ages. On Saturday, October 19th, participants can pick up their race numbers and participant bags in a festive atmosphere with live music, a food truck, and a bar service. The day will serve as a prelude to the main sports event on Sunday, October 20th.

On Sunday, participants can choose between various race distances: a 10-kilometer race for the most prepared, a 5-kilometer race, and a non-competitive 5-kilometer walk designed for anyone, regardless of their physical condition, to join the cause. Additionally, the day will include various activities such as dance workshops, live music, and recreational activities for children.

The event has once again been supported by the Herencia City Council, as shown in a meeting between the mayor, Sergio García-Navas, and Marco’s parents. Both agree that this initiative aims not only to raise funds for Phelan-McDermid Syndrome research but also to make the daily struggle of people with different abilities visible and promote their real inclusion in society.

Registration for Run Like Hero is now open on the event’s official website: https://runlikeahero.com/rlh-herencia/ or by calling 639 947 609 for more information. This event is not only an opportunity to enjoy sports with the family but also to contribute to a charitable cause that seeks to improve the lives of those affected by Phelan-McDermid Syndrome.

Help us give visibility to these superheroes and contribute to their daily fight. Thank you for your support!
