The Culture Department, in collaboration with the City Council of Ciudad Real and the company Tecnove, has launched the call for the 41st edition of the National Painting Contest Jesús Madero. This prestigious contest has become a national artistic reference and is one of the most traditional events within the programming of the Fair and Festivities in honor of the Virgin of las Mercedes, which will take place from September 20 to 24 this year.
Call Open Until September 12
The call for submission of artworks is open until September 12. Interested artists can submit a maximum of two pieces, with a free and original theme. This contest aims to promote and disseminate culture, providing a platform for both new and established artists to showcase their perception and interpretation of art.
Increase in Prize Amount
This year, the contest has increased the amount of some of its prizes. In total, 6,100 euros will be distributed as follows:
- 2,100 euros awarded by the City Council
- 2,000 euros subsidized by the Provincial Council
- 1,500 euros provided by the company Tecnove
- A local prize of 500 euros
The awards ceremony will take place on September 20 during the opening event of the Festivities.
Exhibition at the ‘Agustín Úbeda’ Hall
On the same day, the exhibition with the participating artworks will be inaugurated at the ‘Agustín Úbeda’ Hall, which will remain open until September 29. The exhibited pieces will be available for sale, offering a unique opportunity for artists to market their work.
A Contest that Promotes Creativity and Talent
Councilor Aitor Gallego de la Sacristana highlighted the importance of this contest in promoting creativity and artistic talent. “This contest is one of our most important cultural events of the year. Our goal is to enhance the value of the municipal heritage with great works by renowned artists,” the councilor stated.
High Participation of Artists
The National Painting Contest Jesús Madero annually attracts artists from across the country. In the previous edition, a total of 59 pieces were submitted, demonstrating the high level of participation and artistic quality that characterizes this event.
