Session “Growing as a woman” with Carolina Rueda at the Municipal Library.

Last March 8th marked International Women’s Day, a date that commemorates the fight for gender equality and women’s empowerment. In this context, the Herencia Municipal Library organized a very special activity to commemorate this important date: a storytelling session led by storyteller Carolina Rueda.

The activity was part of the program prepared by the Herencia Women’s Center to commemorate Women’s Day, and was aimed at 5th and 6th grade students from the local schools. The session, entitled “Growing up as a woman,” took place at the Youth Center and was a great success.

During the session, Carolina Rueda narrated a series of oral tradition stories in which women played a leading role. Through these stories, the Colombian storyteller conveyed a very important message: being a woman should not prevent us from being the protagonists of our own story, as happens to Princess Filomena. Moreover, she reminded us that we are the masters of our own fate and that we can weave a better world with our own hands.

One of the most noteworthy aspects of the storytelling session was the way in which women were portrayed. Rather than being depicted as a victim who needs to be saved by a prince charming, women were presented as strong and empowered figures, capable of facing the challenges that come their way and achieving their goals.

In this sense, Carolina Rueda’s storytelling session was a perfect example of how literature and oral storytelling can be used to promote values of equality and empowerment among young people. In a world where gender inequalities still exist, it is essential that girls and young women learn to value themselves and other women as strong and capable beings.

In conclusion, the storytelling session organized by the Herencia Municipal Library to commemorate International Women’s Day was a resounding success. Storyteller Carolina Rueda was able to convey a very important message through her stories and demonstrated that literature can be a powerful tool for promoting women’s equality and empowerment.
