IES Hermógenes Rodríguez invites you to the event “Inolvidables VII”: Basilia Jimeno Fernández.

The ceremony for the “Unforgettable VII” award will take place on Wednesday, March 8 at 12:00 in the Municipal Auditorium of Herencia. This educational award is a joint initiative of the Hermógenes Rodríguez High School and the Herencia Local Women’s Center.

Under the slogan “Combing through Forgetfulness,” this year’s edition honors all women who have been ignored by official history and have suffered abuses of power, known as “the shorn ones.” We want to remember these women and honor their memory.

The recipient of this year’s award will be Mrs. Basilia Jimeno Fernández, daughter of one of those women who were victims of the Francoist repression in our area (Villafranca de los Caballeros, Herencia, Puerto Lápice and Villarta de San Juan). According to the presentation of her nomination, these women were raped, tortured, shorn, and in some cases, murdered by the ideals of the men in their families or by their own. Basilia represents the need for truth, justice, reparation and guarantees of non-repetition regarding all crimes inflicted against women in wars, dictatorships, and post-conflicts.

During the event, the documentary “Bringing to Light, Memories of the Shorn Ones,” directed by Mrs. María Dolores Martín-Consuegra, psychologist and anthropologist, will be shown, and she will also participate in the debate on the humiliations suffered by these women that have been silenced for so long.

This event is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of remembering and honoring women who have suffered violence and abuse in the past, and to continue fighting for truth, justice, and gender equality.
