Last Saturday, the volunteers of Civil Protection of Herencia went to the neighboring town of Camuñas to provide security and coverage for the recreation of “El Tío Camuñas,” a popular figure from the War of Independence.
This historical recreation, titled “El Juramento de Guerrillero,” focuses on the life of Francisco Sánchez Fernández, known as “El Tío Camuñas.” During the War of Independence, Sánchez Fernández rose up against the French army and led one of the most prominent guerrilla groups in the center of the peninsula. During the conflict, he was granted the rank of Lieutenant Colonel of the Francos de Camuñas Hussars.
The event not only featured the historical recreation, but also offered a variety of activities designed to immerse attendees in the atmosphere of the time. These included lectures and a series of actions that allowed visitors to feel transported to the early 19th century, a period marked by the tumultuous years of the War of Independence.
The unique experience provided visitors with the opportunity to relive critical moments in history in a pleasant and welcoming environment. The organizers worked hard to create a space where each visitor could be transported back in time and enjoy a total immersion in the atmosphere of that era.
