Interview with the mayor of Herencia, who is already preparing a new edition of Carnival 2024.

Herencia, known as the birthplace of Carnival in our region, is already immersed in preparations for the next Carnival in 2024. Although we are still in the month of October and there are still festivities to come such as All Saints’ Day, Constitution Day, and Christmas, Herencia does not waste time and has already opened the deadline for the contest for the poster announcing the 2024 Carnival.

This contest is looking for the image that will represent the most emblematic celebration of the municipality. The deadline to submit applications is November 24th, as the candidates will be evaluated on December 1st and the jury’s decision will be made. Anyone who wishes to participate is free to present their work in any format, adapting to new trends and technologies.

The mayor of Herencia, Sergio García Navas, in his interview on Onda Cero, commented on the anxiety and anticipation with which they await the carnival: “We are certainly eager for the carnival to start; this year it comes very early,” referring to the “Saturday of the anxious” being on February 3rd. He also emphasized the variety of styles and themes presented each year, which poses a challenge for the jury.

In addition to the carnival preparations, Herencia has other important events on its agenda. One notable mention was the “Run Like a Hero” race, aimed at raising funds for research on Phelan-McDermid Syndrome, a disease that affects one of the town’s residents, young Marco. The initiative has great community support and aims to raise awareness about this disease and the advances made through research.

García Navas also mentioned other projects and developments in the town, such as the installation of domestic oil collection containers and the Municipal Education Integration Plan. The latter has become an essential tool that provides educational support and combats school dropout.

As for future projects, the mayor mentioned the rehabilitation of the Casa de los Mercedarios, a project that has a grant of 750,000 euros from the provincial council and whose main objective is the consolidation and rehabilitation of the building.

In the words of the mayor in his interview on Onda Cero: “We must not abandon the cruising speed. We have fully acquired it and we are already working on medium and short-term projects.” With this vision, Herencia continues to move forward and work to offer the best to its residents and visitors.
