Herencia students take center stage in a School Assembly to learn about fundamental rights and freedoms

On Friday, December 1st, 5th grade students from Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes and CEIP Carrasco Alcalde de Herencia schools participated in a School Plenary session focused on the rules related to fundamental rights and freedoms recognized in the Constitution.

This event, of great educational and civic value, has allowed students to immerse themselves in the world of local politics, putting themselves in the shoes of councilors and expressing their doubts and concerns about various policies developed in their locality. This exercise has provided a unique platform for young people to actively understand and question democratic mechanisms and municipal management.

The day was attended by the Mayor Sergio García Navas, the councilor for education, Lola Fernández, and other members of the government team. Students had the opportunity to visit iconic places in the City Hall, such as the police station, the cloister, and the mayor’s office, where they were able to get a close look at the daily work that takes place in these facilities.

In addition to promoting civic participation from an early age, this activity has served to bring local government closer to young people, showing them in a practical way how decisions affecting their community are made. From the Herencia City Hall, we want to extend our thanks to the teachers, schools, and parents’ associations for their collaboration in this enriching activity.

The School Plenary has been an excellent initiative to involve students in the democratic process, inspiring them to be active and conscious citizens in the future.
