In an ambitious project aimed at enriching the tourist offering of Herencia and contributing to the economic development of the locality, the Government of Castilla-La Mancha, in close collaboration with the Town Hall, is carrying out the rehabilitation of the historic ‘Casa de los Mercedarios’. This emblematic building from the 18th century is being transformed into a modern inn with the goal of meeting the growing tourist demand in the region.
The initiative was highlighted during a meeting between the second vice president of the regional government, José Manuel Caballero, and the mayor of Herencia, Sergio García-Navas. During this meeting, Caballero reiterated President Emiliano García-Page’s commitment to the town, focused on ensuring the well-being and promoting the economic and tourist development of Herencia.
The future inn, which will have 26 rooms, is part of a joint effort between both administrations that began in March 2023. This tourism infrastructure will be part of the Hospice Network of Castilla-La Mancha, an initiative of the regional government to boost tourism in the area. Careful conservation of the building’s architectural elements will ensure respect for the local heritage while meeting the accommodation needs of the town.
The project goes beyond the transformation of the ‘Casa de los Mercedarios’ and is part of a broader strategy to promote business growth in Herencia. The second vice president highlighted the business development in the municipality, supported by effective policies of the Town Hall in collaboration with other administrations.
An example of this support is the declaration of Tecnove’s expansion plan as a priority project by the regional government, with an investment of 11.3 million euros and the creation of new jobs. This expansion will strengthen the business presence in Herencia and contribute to the economic diversification of the locality.
Additionally, the processing of a medium voltage line from Villafranca de los Caballeros to Herencia was mentioned, which will increase the power in the industrial park and enable future expansion phases. This infrastructure is crucial for the industrial and business development of Herencia, ensuring adequate energy supply for local companies and future projects.
