Heritage joins in the commemoration of International Ear Care Day.

On the occasion of International Ear Care Day, celebrated every 3rd of March, the town of Herencia joins the global initiative to raise awareness about the importance of hearing health by lighting up its iconic windmills in red as a symbol of support.

This day, established by the World Health Organization (WHO), aims to raise awareness about early detection and prevention of hearing loss, a disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. Under the theme “Hear without limits”, WHO encourages governments, organizations, and communities to take action to prevent hearing loss and improve access to treatments and supportive technologies.

In Herencia, the lighting of the windmills not only aims to raise awareness for the cause but also to remind that hearing health is essential for people’s quality of life. Through this action, the Herencia City Council reaffirms its commitment to inclusion and the well-being of its citizens, promoting a more conscious and supportive environment.

Hearing loss can have multiple causes, including genetic factors, birth complications, certain infectious diseases, exposure to excessive noise, and aging. However, more than 50% of cases of hearing loss could be prevented through public health measures.

International Ear Care Day is also an opportunity for people to regularly check their hearing and seek professional attention if they notice any issues. From Herencia, a message of support is sent to all those living with hearing problems, highlighting the importance of technological and medical advancements that allow many people to significantly improve their hearing capacity.

The City Council takes advantage of this commemoration to invite all Herencia residents to participate in the scheduled activities and to learn about ways to take care of their hearing health. Early detection is key, and in Herencia, the health of all senses matters.
