Herencia celebrates International Women’s Day with a program dedicated to equality and visibility.

In Herencia, the commemoration of International Women’s Day is filled with culture, education, and tributes. The City Council, in collaboration with the Women’s Center and the Feminist Association ‘Herencia de Mujeres’, has organized a series of events that reflect the town’s commitment to gender equality under the slogan “Closing gaps, equal and visible”.

On March 8, the central day of the celebration, the courtyard of the City Council will be the stage for various significant activities. The day will begin with a puppet theater performance for children and continue in the afternoon with an institutional event that will include the reading of a manifesto, the proclamation of the Feminist Association, and the presentation of the award for the IV Painting Contest ‘In the key of woman’. Additionally, the event will be enriched with a modern dance exhibition by Marta Cano and Julián Mascaraque, with musical accompaniment by Rocío Socuéllamos and Miguel Bustamante.

The program also includes a tribute to Vicenta Pilar Flores Ruiz, recognition of illustrious women through banners in the Plaza de España and a commemorative banner at the Casa de Herencia. The week of celebrations kicks off on February 29 with a Personal Growth Workshop and culminates on March 9 with the theatrical performance “Of Clay, Flowers, and Struggle” by the Teatrekas Association at the Municipal Auditorium. This play is a tribute to the memory of women through the stories of their ancestors and themselves.

The schools of Herencia actively participate with workshops on preventing child sexual abuse for the youngest and workshops on new masculinities and sexual diversity for high school students.

The Councilor for Equality, Aitor Gallego de la Sacristana, has emphasized the importance of these activities in the pursuit of real and effective equality between men and women, a fundamental and persistent goal for the community.

Herencia joins the global reflection and action in favor of gender equality, offering its citizens an opportunity to learn, recognize, and celebrate the contributions of women to society.
