Herencia celebrates Pastor’s Day by highlighting the agri-food sector.

Once again, the town of Herencia is getting ready to celebrate the Day of the Shepherd, a festivity that highlights one of the most rooted professions in the region and emphasizes the importance of the agri-food sector. Coinciding with the celebration of San Pedro and San Pablo on June 29th, the Department of Rural Development has organized a weekend full of activities for all ages, promoting tradition and local products.

Nocturnal Tasting and Live Music

On Saturday, June 29th, at 10:00 pm, Quhesalia will be the stage for a nocturnal tasting led by Laura Díaz-Pavón, technical and quality director of the Cristo de Santa Ana Cooperative in Villafranca de los Caballeros. Attendees will be able to taste three wines from different regions of Castilla-La Mancha, each paired with a tapa prepared by local chef José Luis Mascaraque from El Olivo Restaurant. These dishes will highlight products related to the local shepherd and Manchego culture.

The evening will be enlivened by musical performances by Laura Abengoza, Jaime Gómez, and Ángel Fernández, who will add a special touch to this evening dedicated to the flavors and sounds of the region.

Children’s Activity: Cheese Making

On Sunday, June 30th, starting at 10:30 am, children aged 9 to 14 can participate in an educational activity in the emblematic space of Quhesalia. Directed by the Los Pizorros Cheese Dairy from Villapalacios in Albacete, the young participants will learn about the cheese making process, actively participating in the creation of fresh cheese to take home. Additionally, they will be taught different methods of cheese preparation and preservation.

Official Statements

The Councilor of Rural Development and Tourism, Mª Eugenia Díaz-Pacheco Galán, highlighted the importance of this celebration: “We continue to bet on local talent in this activity, as both the tasting direction and the products to be tasted by the participants will showcase the high quality of the agri-food sector in our municipality.”

Ticket Sales

Tickets for both activities will be available starting on Monday, June 17th at 11:00 am through the online platform of the City Council (AYMO). For those who have difficulties with digital access, the Herencia City Council offers the Digital Inclusion Point at the Municipal Library. Interested individuals can request an appointment by calling 661990450, where they will receive personalized assistance to purchase their tickets, ensuring that the process is accessible to all.
