The Gomez Moreno Livestock Company, S.L., from Herencia (Ciudad Real), has been selected as one of the new members of the Board of Trustees of the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Queso Manchego Foundation. This organization, which oversees the quality certification of Queso Manchego produced in 62 dairies in Toledo, Ciudad Real, Albacete, and Cuenca, has renewed its representatives in a process that includes members from the livestock and dairy sectors.

Representation from Herencia in the livestock sector
The livestock from Herencia stands out among the eight selected livestock farms out of a total of 14 applications submitted for the Board of Trustees. In this process, out of the 502 eligible voters, 259 cast their vote, representing a participation rate of 51.59%. In addition to the livestock farm from Herencia, other entities such as José Luis Pérez Madrid from Carrión de Calatrava, and Agropecuaria Cuelliga from San Clemente, among others, have been chosen.

A dairy from Alcázar de San Juan among the new representatives of the dairy sector
In the industrial dairy sector, Campo de San Juan, S.L., from Alcázar de San Juan (Ciudad Real), a dairy with a significant trajectory in the production of Queso Manchego, has also been selected. This selection is part of the industrial dairy census, where out of the 35 registered companies, 29 participated, reaching a noteworthy participation rate of 82.86%. Alongside Campo de San Juan, three other dairies from Toledo and Cuenca complete the representation of the sector in this group.

In the artisanal dairy census, six companies submitted their candidacy, and 19 out of the 22 registered ones participated in the vote, achieving a participation rate of 86.36%. The chosen artisanal dairies come from towns like La Solana, Moral de Calatrava, and Cózar, highlighting the commitment of these small producers to maintain the tradition of Queso Manchego.

Next steps: election of president and vice-president
With a total of 16 members – eight from the livestock sector and eight from the dairy sector – the new Board of Trustees of the PDO Queso Manchego Foundation will meet in the next two weeks to appoint its president and vice-president, positions that will be held by representatives from both sectors. These figures will lead the strategy and decision-making of the organization, whose main objective is the protection and promotion of Queso Manchego.

Commitment to the quality and authenticity of Queso Manchego
The PDO Queso Manchego has established itself as a reference in the defense of the quality and authenticity of this emblematic product. Currently, its certification endorses 62 dairies that comply with strict quality controls, guaranteeing a traditional and exclusive production process from the Manchega region, which uses only milk from Manchego sheep.

This approach not only ensures the quality of the final product but also protects the prestige of the PDO in national and international markets, where Queso Manchego is highly valued. Therefore, the PDO Queso Manchego Foundation plays an essential role in defending the brand, protecting it against imitations, and strengthening the local economy through the promotion of its products.

A boost for the agri-food sector of Castilla-La Mancha
The participation of the livestock from Herencia and the dairy from Alcázar de San Juan highlights the importance of the agri-food sector in Castilla-La Mancha. Both entities will play a key role in developing policies and strategies that benefit the sector, from promotion to the defense of traditional practices in the production of this renowned cheese.

With this renewal, the PDO Queso Manchego Board of Trustees advances in its mission to preserve tradition and promote the excellence of a unique product, with the collaboration of livestock farmers and dairies representing the spirit of the Manchega region and who will continue working to ensure that Queso Manchego maintains its prestige in the global market. via: Noticias de Castilla-La Mancha.
