Herencia has announced its long-awaited program for the Fair and Festival in honor of the Virgin of Las Mercedes. This event, which will take place from September 20th to 24th, was unveiled this Tuesday in the vicinity of the affectionately named ‘Teleclub’ space, which will host the traditional exhibition by Jesús ‘Chamusca’ during the festivities.
The presented program stands out for its diversity, offering attendees a variety of cultural, social, sports, and religious activities. Through this diversification, the aim is for everyone to find their space and for different preferences to be adequately represented. As Mayor Sergio García-Navas stated, these festivities are the perfect occasion to “showcase the impressive potential of Herencia, which has been celebrating these festivities for 139 years, offering a rich variety of activities in just five days.”
Aitor Gallego de la Sacristana, Councilor for Culture, was in charge of detailing the program. The Pre-Fair events will kick off the festivities this weekend, with highlighted events such as the National Rapid Painting Contest and gatherings for patchwork, lace-making, and furniture and decoration unveiling. On the 20th, the official opening of the festival will be carried out by local journalist Mª Jesús Mora.
Attendees will be able to enjoy various activities, including an expanded marquee, a bullfight featuring debutant local Javier Fernández-Baíllo, concerts with renowned artists like Krumel and Carmen de la Fuente, and traditional events such as the “Pincho de la Vaquilla”, Grape Harvest Festival and Folklore Festival.
In the religious realm, Father Comendador of the convent of La Merced, Pepe Avilés, reviewed the scheduled religious acts. Among the most significant ones are the grand floral offering on Saturday the 16th, the Gloria proclamation by the Mayor, and the main events on the 24th, such as the Main Function and the Grand Procession.
