In a continuous expression of its commitment to the promotion and dissemination of culture and art, the City Council, with the support of the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real and the company Tecnove, has announced a new edition of the “Jesús Madero” National Painting Contest. This year, the contest celebrates its fortieth anniversary, marking four decades of celebrating artistic talent.
This competition, which is among the most traditional events in the town, has established itself at the national level over the years. Its importance is reflected in the quality of its past winners, which include renowned artists such as Teruhiro Ando, Manuel Reina, and Guillermo Sedano. In addition, the attractiveness of the prizes, totaling 5500 euros, attracts a wide range of participants each year.
Last year’s edition attracted artists from all over the country, with 48 works and 35 participating authors. This year, a similar participation is expected, with the submission deadline for works open until September 14. Each artist can submit up to two works, which must be original and of free subject.
The awards will be presented on September 20 during the opening ceremony of the Festivities in honor of the Virgen de las Mercedes. On the same day, the exhibition of the participating works will be inaugurated in the “Agustín Úbeda” Hall, which will be open until October 1. The exhibited works will be available for sale.
Aitor Gallego de la Sacristana, the Councilor for Culture, has stated that the City Council remains committed to events such as the “Jesús Madero” Painting Contest, which contribute to enriching the artistic heritage of Herencia (Ciudad Real) with its magnificent works. The contest represents a key stage for artists to showcase their unique way of perceiving and expressing art.
