The Municipal Council of Herencia has approved the budget for the year 2025 on Thursday, totaling 8,677,084.07 euros. This budget, slightly higher than the previous year, positions the municipality as one of the first in Castilla-La Mancha to have its accounts approved for the new year, facilitating effective management from the beginning of 2025.
The Councilor for Finance, Inmaculada Ortega, highlighted that these budgets have been designed with the aim of continuing to offer quality public services, while creating and expanding new essential services. According to Ortega, the energy efficiency implemented in previous years is beginning to translate into significant savings in fuel and electricity, optimizing the use of municipal resources.
Mayor Sergio García-Navas emphasized that these funds will allow the modernization of key public spaces, such as the remodeling of facades in the Plaza de España and the semi-pedestrianization of central streets such as Mesones and Concepción. In addition, improvements in the connection between the Industrial Park and the road to Villafranca de los Caballeros are planned, a strategic measure to promote economic development and strengthen the local productive fabric.
Highlighted Projects for 2025
Among the main investments included in the budget is the construction of a building for Carnival associations, which will be located in the facilities of the old Music School. This project aims to strengthen one of the most representative traditions of Herencia, promoting participation and cultural identity.
Likewise, the professional advisory office for young people, integrated by a psychologist and a social worker, will be consolidated and begin operating before the end of 2024. This service aims to offer comprehensive support to the young people of the town, facilitating their personal and professional development.
In the cultural sphere, budget allocations will guarantee the continuity and promotion of traditional celebrations such as Carnival, the Fair, Pilgrimages, and Holy Week. According to the mayor, these initiatives seek not only to preserve the cultural roots of Herencia but also to adapt them to new social realities to increase their projection.
Beyond the Physical: An Integral Approach
The budget also includes a specific amendment to the subsidiary rules to facilitate the change of industrial use to commercial of a plot of land, allowing the installation of a Consum supermarket in the municipality. This measure aligns with the goal of revitalizing the local economy and offering more consumption options to the residents of Herencia.
Another highlight was the transfer of municipal land to the Castilla-La Mancha Regional Government to carry out the project of layout and reorganization of the CM-3167 road, which connects the Vineyards Highway with Herencia. This project will improve the road connectivity of the town and favor its integration into the regional environment.
The mayor concluded the session by thanking the municipal staff for their work and highlighting the importance of these budgets as a tool to revitalise all sectors of the population. “They are a tool that allows the development of the productive and social fabric, while promoting the growth of the town, both in services and in the quality with which they are provided,” García-Navas stated.
