Herencia celebrates the Children’s Plenary Session on the occasion of Constitution Day

This Tuesday, Herencia celebrated the traditional Children’s Plenary session as part of Constitution Day, an event where 5th grade students from CEIP Carrasco Alcalde and Colegio Nuestra Señora de la Merced had the opportunity to learn about the functioning of the local council and democracy up close.

Introducing democracy to the youngest

The session, presided over by Mayor Sergio García-Navas and members of the Government team, was marked by the active participation of the children, who asked questions about the functions of the City Council, electoral processes, and the role of institutions in the lives of citizens. With accessible and friendly language, municipal officials answered their questions, promoting interest in citizen participation and democratic values.

Tour of the Town Hall

After the Children’s Plenary, the students visited the Town Hall facilities, touring emblematic spaces such as the cloister of the Town Hall, the Local Police station, and the mayor’s office. During the tour, the students showed curiosity about the functions carried out in each area, discovering practically how the municipality is managed.

The meeting not only allowed the children to learn about the internal functioning of the Town Hall but also gave them the opportunity to reflect on the importance of local institutions and their impact on the daily lives of citizens.

A souvenir for the participants

As a recognition for their participation, the children received a small gift, specially designed to accompany their breakfasts, becoming a memory of this educational experience.

Thanks to the educational community

The Town Hall highlighted the commitment of educational centers and their teachers in organizing this activity, which not only promotes knowledge about the Constitution and the functioning of institutions but also awakens the enthusiasm and curiosity of the youngest about democratic values and citizen participation.

The Children’s Plenary session continues to be a key activity to bring institutions closer to the new generations, instilling values of coexistence and democracy, and strengthening the bond between the youngest and their municipal environment.
