On September 14, 2024, Herencia will once again be the stage for one of the most prominent events on the cultural calendar: the 17th edition of the National Rapid Painting Competition ‘Villa de Herencia’. This event, which has become a reference in the artistic and cultural field, is part of the activities leading up to the Fair and Festivities of the Virgin of La Merced, which will take place from September 20 to 24 in the municipality.
Organized by the City Council of Herencia in collaboration with the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real, the competition expects to bring together numerous artists from different parts of the country. Registration will take place on the day of the event, at the Agustín Úbeda Exhibition Hall, between 9:00 and 10:00 in the morning. After that, participants will spread out to various locations in the municipality to capture, on their canvases, the most emblematic views and corners of Herencia.
The theme of the competition is broad and allows artists to explore different aspects of the municipality, from urban and rural panoramas to historical sites, traditions, and local customs. The artworks, created outdoors and under the watchful eye of passersby, must have a minimum size of 50×70 cm and can be created using any pictorial technique.
At the end of the day, the works will be exhibited in the Municipal Summer Auditorium, where the jury will make its decision and proceed with the award ceremony. In addition, the works that do not receive awards will be available for sale during the same day, allowing attendees to take home a unique piece from this competition.
This year, the prizes amount to almost 3,000 euros, a figure that reflects the commitment of the City Council and local businesses to the promotion of culture. The first prize, awarded by the City Council of Herencia, is endowed with 600 euros. This is followed by prizes sponsored by local companies: 500 euros by Color Vivo Internet and Garden Viveros Ferca, 450 euros by Rotulación Técnica S.L. (Rotec), 425 euros by Prefadhor (Tubyder S.L.), 400 euros by Harinas Palmero S.L., and 375 euros by Traza2, Arquitectura y Urbanismo.
The Councilor of Culture, Aitor Gallego de la Sacristana, highlighted the relevance of this competition, stating that “it is a contest that has gained great popularity, not only because of the amount of the prizes, but also because it allows residents and visitors to enjoy the creative process live, contributing to enhancing the landscape and cultural heritage of Herencia”.
