Herencia signs a historic agreement to convert the Casa de los Frailes into a lodging house.

This Wednesday, the agreement for the City Council to acquire the property of the Casa de la Orden de la Merced has been formalized, with the aim of incorporating it into its heritage and using it for public use as tourist accommodation. The operation will be carried out thanks to a repayable advance of 550,000 euros from the provincial corporation.

The project consists of rehabilitating and carrying out the necessary works to adapt this emblematic 18th century building, which has more than 1,200 square meters of surface. The planned investment is 750,000 euros, and will be approved at the next plenary session of the Provincial Council. The initiative will allow the recovery of the historical and religious heritage, and, once the activity is initiated, the property will join the Regional Network of Hostels of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha.

Father Pepe Avilés thanked the institutions for facilitating an advantageous agreement for all parties involved, highlighting the centuries of presence of the order and the importance of its maintenance and continuity to continue welcoming life and culture.

The Mayor Sergio García-Navas highlighted the historical nature of the agreement for the town, preserving a well-loved heritage asset, and pointed out the importance of having a new resource that would dynamize the tourist strategy of the municipality.

For his part, Caballero highlighted the relevance of the promotion of tourism in the province and its potential, thanks to its natural, historical and cultural resources. He also emphasized the commitment to provide quality accommodation.

Patricia Franco, in turn, stated: “It is very important that we bet on the care and rehabilitation and give sustainable use to the historical heritage and thank the joint commitment of the regional government, the Province of Ciudad Real, the City of Herencia and the Order of the Mercedarios for the recovery and enhancement for tourist use that revalues one of the most emblematic buildings in the town.”

The project, which has the support of all the administrations involved, will promote this historical treasure. The accommodation will have 26 rooms with 52 places, and will offer common areas such as kitchen, dining room, laundry, restaurant and common rooms.
