Heritage, awarded for its project of restoration and promotion of Baroque Paintings.

In the Culture, Heritage, and Innovation in Rural Areas Awards, organized by the Eurocaja Rural Foundation-University of Castilla-La Mancha Chair, Herencia has been recognized. The town has been awarded in the Heritage category for its ambitious project of discovery, restoration, and enhancement of Baroque Paintings, an initiative that has been a milestone in the recovery of the municipality’s artistic heritage.

A commitment to the recovery of historical heritage

The award-winning project has brought to light a valuable iconographic gem from the 18th century, which had remained hidden until its recent restoration. Fully financed by the Herencia City Council, this work has not only involved the recovery of an important artistic element but has also promoted its dissemination through heritage routes, becoming a tourist and cultural attraction for residents and visitors.

Recognition of cultural preservation efforts

The awards ceremony took place at the San Pedro Mártir Paraninfo Church in Toledo, with the presence of Mayor Sergio García-Navas, Councilor for Tourism and Heritage Mª Eugenia Díaz-Pacheco, Councilor for Works José Manuel Aragonés, new Tourism technician Javier Cobos, and Juan Francisco Prado, who has worked in the municipality’s heritage area.

The Mayor of Herencia thanked the Eurocaja Rural Foundation and the University of Castilla-La Mancha for this recognition, highlighting the importance of this award for the town: “This award recognizes a firm project that not only protects and enhances our artistic heritage but also contributes to the tourism development of the municipality.”

Boosting rural and cultural development

The Culture, Heritage, and Innovation in Rural Areas Awards aim to promote initiatives that foster new opportunities and socio-economic development in municipalities with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants.

Thanks to the restoration of these Baroque paintings and their inclusion in guided tourist routes, Herencia has managed to enhance its cultural richness, becoming a reference for historical heritage in the region.

This award reinforces the commitment of the City Council to the protection of artistic legacy and the promotion of cultural tourism, consolidating Herencia as a destination of interest for art and history enthusiasts.
