Illuminating the path to understanding.

Today, October 27th, we join in the commemoration of International Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Day. In a symbolic and profound gesture, our iconic windmills are colored orange, thus bringing attention to a condition that affects a significant part of the child and adolescent population.

ADHD is a chronic neurobiological disorder characterized by a persistent pattern of inattention, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity. It is often detected in childhood and can persist into adulthood, affecting the daily lives of those who have it. However, with proper diagnosis and treatment, individuals with ADHD can lead a fulfilling and satisfying life.

The purpose of this day is precisely that: to raise awareness and sensitize the general public to the need to detect, diagnose, and intervene early in children and adolescents who show signs of ADHD. Early detection can make a significant difference in the affected individual’s life, as it allows for the initiation of treatments that improve their quality of life and facilitate their integration into the educational, social, and family environment.

In addition to the special lighting of the windmills, it is essential for the community to actively participate in spreading information about ADHD. Openly discussing the disorder, sharing experiences, and debunking certain prejudices are essential steps in creating a more inclusive and understanding society.

Therefore, beyond the symbolic gesture of illuminating the windmills in orange, this day invites us to illuminate our minds, to understand and support those who face the daily challenge of living with ADHD. It is an opportunity to educate ourselves, share, and, above all, reaffirm our commitment to inclusion and respect for neurobiological diversity.
