Luis Miguel Abengoza leads Ars Mácula to victory in the National Contest of Castilian Song.

The Musical Association Ars Mácula, directed by Luis Miguel Abengoza from Herencia, won the first prize at the prestigious XIX National Castilian Song Contest “Villa de Fuensalida” last Saturday. The contest, held at the Auditorium of the Casa de Cultura de Fuensalida, brought together choirs from various regions of Spain, in an evening dedicated to traditional and contemporary choral music from Castilla.

Under Abengoza’s direction, Ars Mácula captivated the jury and the audience with their performance of the required song of the contest, “Es La Mancha”, composed by Juan Manuel Conejo. This outstanding interpretation allowed them to prevail over three other choirs from different locations: the Coral Therpsichore from Móstoles, the Coral Amicus Meus from Ávila, and the Coral Contraste from Sonseca.

Ars Mácula: commitment to choral music

Founded in Alcázar de San Juan, the Musical Association Ars Mácula aims to bring choral music closer to the residents of the region, encouraging participation and artistic development. Under the baton of Luis Miguel Abengoza, the choir has reached new levels of excellence, establishing itself as a benchmark in the region. The dedication of the director and the passion of the members have allowed Ars Mácula to achieve success on renowned stages.

A contest with a great tradition

The National Castilian Song Contest “Villa de Fuensalida” is an event with a long history, organized by the Coral San José since its foundation in 1984. This contest has become a key space for the dissemination of choral music in Castilla-La Mancha, bringing together groups from all over Spain that perform both traditional and contemporary pieces of Castilian songs. The Coral San José, host and organizer of the event, has been a cornerstone in the promotion of choral music in the region.

A triumph with a Manchego identity

The victory of Ars Mácula in Fuensalida is also a recognition of the cultural richness of La Mancha. The performance of “Es La Mancha” was particularly significant, reflecting the group’s deep connection with their land. For Luis Miguel Abengoza and the members of Ars Mácula, this award represents an important achievement and a motivation to continue promoting choral music, bringing the name of Alcázar de San Juan and Castilla-La Mancha to the highest levels of the national choral scene.

Ars Mácula’s success in Fuensalida demonstrates the power of choral music to unite and move, while preserving and celebrating the cultural identity of Castilla-La Mancha.
