Raquel Pérez Herrero, with roots in Herencia, stands out in Extremlab 2023 with “LA MERCED”.

Filmmaker Raquel Pérez Herrero, whose roots are deeply ingrained in the Manchegan land of Herencia, has been honored at Extremlab 2023, a renowned platform for emerging creators, thanks to her project “LA MERCED”. This project, which started as a short film during her time as a student in the Master’s Degree in Film Direction and Production at EFTI, has evolved into a feature film proposal that is still in the writing phase.

The plot of “LA MERCED” unfolds in the depths of Herencia, Ciudad Real, where an exotic wild animal becomes the protagonist of the daily breakfasts at La Merced churrería.

Pérez Herrero’s feature film promises to be a tapestry of family anecdotes and experiences, infused with the unique tones and expressions of the Manchegan region. “La Merced” is not just a narrative about life in Herencia; it is a tribute to the stories woven within a community and to the evolution of childhood innocence in the face of life’s realities.

The recognition at Extremlab represents a significant boost for the director, giving her the opportunity to network with other filmmakers and seek production companies interested in bringing her vision to the big screen. With this project, Raquel Pérez Herrero aims to capture in images the essence of her family legacy and the peculiarities of her hometown, showcasing the particular universe that has shaped her creative perspective.

“La Merced” stands as a reflection of life’s transitions, narrated through the eyes of a girl discovering the complexity of the world around her. Raquel Pérez Herrero, through this project, invites us to remember the stories that shape our identity and to appreciate the small communities that are the heart of Manchegan culture.
