Students from Carrasco Alcalde School visit Quhesalia Center during their Cultural Week.

More than 150 students from 1st and 2nd grade of preschool and 5th grade of primary school at Carrasco Alcalde School visited the Cheese Interpretation Center of Herencia, Quhesalia, as part of their Cultural Week celebration. During this activity, students had the opportunity to learn about the shepherd culture and the processes of traditional production of Manchego cheese.

Quhesalia is a center that seeks to preserve and spread the rich history and tradition of cheese production in the region, and it is located in the old silo belonging to the National Silos and Granaries Network, a building built in 1967 that is a reference in the urban landscape of Herencia. This space has become a meeting place for the community, where citizen participation is encouraged, and values and culture related to the production of local agri-food products are transmitted.

During their visit, students were guided by an interpreter of the exhibition, who explained to them in detail the various aspects of cheese production and the life of shepherds in the region.

Quhesalia is open to the public on Thursdays and the first Sunday of each month, and offers guided tours with prior appointment for the rest of the Sundays. Rates vary depending on age and type of group, with discounts for residents of Herencia, retirees, and large families. School visits also have special rates.

The Herencia City Council also offers the possibility of reserving the center’s facilities for associations, companies, or groups that wish to organize activities related to the training or dissemination of the agri-food sector. For more information or to make reservations, you can contact the city council via email at [email protected] or by phone at 926571002, extension 2059.

The visit of the students from Carrasco Alcalde School to Quhesalia was a success and demonstrates the commitment of the educational center and the municipality to promote education and awareness about cultural heritage and the importance of local traditions.
