The Mayor of Herencia, Sergio García Navas, preparing the highly anticipated Summer Carnival.

The mayor of Herencia, Sergio García Navas, spoke in a recent interview with Onda Cero about the highly anticipated Summer Carnival festivities in our town, which will take place on the second weekend of August. Herencia, with its renowned National Tourist Interest Festival, is getting ready to receive a large number of visitors in what promises to be a vibrant summer celebration.

“We know that the town is already excited, eager to celebrate another edition of its Summer Carnival. Many young children are coming throughout the day to see the giants and the big heads that have taken over the town hall again,” explained García Navas.

The mayor emphasized that the Summer Carnival, which is celebrated with more freshness and spontaneity than its counterpart in February, is marked by the active participation of the city’s residents and visitors. With the arrival of the hot season, lightweight costumes replace the heavier ones from February. In fact, according to García Navas, this carnival marks the holidays for many citizens and is eagerly anticipated.

Those who venture to visit Herencia during the carnival will find a wide range of festivities, including the traditional parade with giants and big heads, the “jinetas” that represent the offering of the town’s guilds to the souls in purgatory, and the joyful presence of Perlé, an emblematic character of the Herencia Carnival.

According to the mayor, it is expected that around 4,000 people will participate in the celebration at the Summer Auditorium. Many attendees come from nearby towns such as Tomelloso, Alcázar de San Juan, Villarta de San Juan, Puerto Ápice, Villafranca, and Campo de Criptana, giving the celebration a truly regional feel.

In addition to the Carnival, Herencia will also celebrate the Fiestas de la Labradora, with the presentation of the queen of the fairs and festivals. This event has become a major highlight in the city’s calendar and attracts visitors from all over.

García Navas concluded his interview with a warm invitation: “Those who don’t have a costume at the moment still have time, as these summer costumes require fewer stitches… they still have time to come to Herencia next Saturday, gather around the town hall at 10 pm to start punctually, as is usual in February, a new parade.”

Herencia, known for its rich carnival culture and hospitality, promises to be the place to be this summer.

The interview is available on Onda Cero and on the Ayuntamiento’s Facebook page.
