The Week of Different Abilities has been inaugurated with a strong commitment to inclusion.

The courtyard of the Town Hall became the stage for the presentation of the Week of Different Abilities on December 2nd, an event aimed at promoting inclusion and coexistence through leisure, sports, and recreational activities in the community. The opening ceremony was attended by the mayor, Sergio García-Navas, the councilor for Social Welfare, Conchi Rodríguez-Palancas, and Alfonso Gutiérrez, manager of the Laborvalía Association, as well as active participation from the users of the ‘El Picazuelo’ and ‘Carpe Diem’ occupational centers.

A space for sharing and visibility

The programming of this week is designed to encourage interaction between people with different abilities and the community, promoting awareness and recognition of their rights. Planned activities include sports days, artistic workshops, and social gathering spaces in various community settings, where experiences are shared and inclusive bonds are strengthened.

During the presentation, the importance of showcasing the abilities and talents of these individuals was emphasized, breaking down social barriers and stigmas. “It is an opportunity to learn, enjoy together, and continue building a more just and inclusive society,” stated the authorities present.

Recognitions to local businesses for their commitment to labor integration

One of the highlights of the event was the recognition of Mascaraque Olivo and Jabalí Gastro Bar for their work in labor integration of people with disabilities. These entities have shown that inclusion benefits not only the employees, but also enriches work environments and promotes values such as diversity and equality.

The mayor publicly thanked these companies for their contribution and encouraged other local businesses to follow their example, highlighting that labor integration is a fundamental tool for autonomy and personal development.

New initiatives for disability: the Disability Council

During his speech, the mayor announced the creation of the new Disability Council, a body that will serve as an active participation platform for people with disabilities and their families. This council aims to strengthen collective decision-making, give voice to the needs of the community, and promote new inclusive public policies.

Furthermore, a banner was placed on the Town Hall balcony as a symbol of institutional commitment to the rights and visibility of people with different abilities.

A path towards a more inclusive society

The Week of Different Abilities is a demonstration of the ongoing effort to create spaces where all individuals, regardless of their abilities, can fully participate in community life. Local authorities emphasized the importance of these events in promoting a culture of respect, integration, and solidarity in society.

With activities that emphasize the value of differences and collaboration, this initiative serves as a benchmark for other municipalities in their commitment to inclusion and equal opportunities.
