The XXXIII Provincial Theater Showcase of Ciudad Real presented with a commitment to local culture and talent.

The Provincial Council of Ciudad Real has announced the details of the XXXIII edition of the Provincial Theater Showcase, an initiative that aims to consolidate the scenic talent of the province and promote culture in the municipalities. The fifth vice president of the Council, María Jesús Pelayo, was in charge of presenting the event at a press conference, accompanied by Teresa Serna Romero, president of the Amateur Theater Federation of Castilla-La Mancha; Fran Peinado, councilor of Villanueva de los Infantes; and Aitor Gallego, councilor of Herencia.

Pelayo highlighted the poster of the showcase, designed by Desiré Mateos Aparicio, and thanked the collaboration of the involved municipalities. In addition, she emphasized the importance of the Provincial Theater Showcase in promoting scenic creation throughout the province, supporting both professional groups and amateurs.

Highlighted Works and Local Talents

This year, the showcase will feature a varied program that includes amateur theater groups and professional companies. One of the main proposals is the play “Mónico Sánchez or How to Light a Dream”, by Producciones SL, which will be presented in Piedrabuena. In the monologue category, the selected ones are José María Perona Lomas, who will perform “Modern Separated Man” in Tomelloso; Mariano López Toribio, with “Monologue with Mime” in Ciudad Real; and Carlos Fernández Garrido, with his performance “Tobacco’s Prejudice” in Alcázar de San Juan.

Regarding amateur theater, six groups have been selected for the final phase, and will perform their plays in different municipalities of the province. The showcase will be inaugurated on October 26 in Villanueva de los Infantes, and the awards ceremony will be held in Herencia.

Support for Theater as a Cultural Driver

Teresa Serna Romero, president of the Amateur Theater Federation of Castilla-La Mancha, thanked the continuous support of the Council for this showcase, highlighting its importance in bringing theater to smaller localities. She also announced that the Juan Mayorga Awards, of national and international prestige, will be presented in Manzanares in March 2025, reinforcing the commitment to amateur theater in the region.

Fran Peinado, councilor of Villanueva de los Infantes, expressed his municipality’s pride in being the inaugural stage of the showcase, highlighting the cultural value it brings to the municipality. On the other hand, Aitor Gallego, councilor of Herencia, thanked the trust placed in his locality to host the final gala and reaffirmed the municipality’s commitment to promoting theater and local culture.

An Investment in Provincial Culture

The Provincial Council of Ciudad Real will allocate 55,000 euros in prizes and logistical support for the realization of this showcase, which aims to ensure access to quality culture throughout the province. The event not only provides a space for artistic expression but also promotes the growth of the local and regional theater community, ensuring that theater continues to be a fundamental pillar in the cultural life of Ciudad Real.

This thirty-third edition reaffirms the commitment of the Council to the development of accessible and quality cultural activities, and to continue giving voice and stage to the theater groups of the province.
