Program of activities organized to commemorate Earth Hour

On March 25th, “Earth Hour” is celebrated worldwide. This annual initiative unites citizens, businesses, municipalities, and institutions in the fight against climate change and biodiversity loss. More than just a symbolic gesture of turning off the lights for an hour, it is a call to action to protect our planet and its nature.

The Herencia Town Hall joins this initiative by turning off its most emblematic buildings, reminding us that nature is vital to our survival and well-being. To commemorate the date, the Youth Department has programmed a series of activities throughout March for participants to connect with their natural environment and themselves.

Art therapy workshops such as mandala and collage initiation workshops will be offered. The first is an inspiring activity that allows participants to express themselves freely and achieve relaxation through art. The second workshop is an opportunity to give new meaning to images and express emotions and feelings visually, using recycling elements to promote the culture of reuse.

The unplugged games session is an intergenerational activity that invites participants to disconnect from screens and discover the real world around them. The activity includes sustainable games made of recycled wood and traditional giant games such as 3 in a row, connect 4, who’s who, giant jenga, chapas football, frog, air hockey, hockey, football with maces, children’s puzzle, lake fishing, mini golf, among others.

On March 25th, during Earth Hour, municipal buildings, monuments, and windmills will be turned off at 8:30 pm. There will also be an escape room titled “Trash within Trash” for young people aged 14 to 30, a fun and committed activity with nature that seeks to raise awareness about waste management, recycling, and reuse.

To learn more and sign up for activities, you can contact the Pablo Iglesias Youth Center by phone at 663744782 or by email at [email protected], with María Jesús as the contact person.
