The Via Crucis of the San Cristóbal Way is renewed ahead of Easter.

In preparation for the upcoming Easter week, the Herencia City Council, in collaboration with the Vidal family, has begun the adaptation of the Via Crucis of the Camino de San Cristóbal, an important religious route in the town. The Vidal family has historically been responsible for the maintenance of this heritage. The renovation project includes the restoration of the various stations of red sandstone, removing repainting and additions to preserve the original crosses and stones. The Mayor Sergio García-Navas and the Councilor for Urbanism, Francisco Gallego de la Sacristana, visited the ongoing works this morning, highlighting the municipality’s commitment to the preservation of its cultural and religious heritage. In addition to the restoration of the Via Crucis, it is also planned to paint the Sepulcrillo hermitage in the coming days. This construction houses a miniature of the Holy Sepulcher, a unique detail in the devotional architecture of the region. The Via Crucis and Sepulcrillo date back at least to the 19th century and represent one of the most characteristic examples of devotional architecture in Herencia. These improvements underline the importance of preserving and promoting local heritage, for both the inhabitants of the area and the visitors who come during Easter week and other religious events. The Herencia City Council and the Vidal family hope that, with these interventions, they will be able to conserve and enhance the experience of those who participate in the Via Crucis of the Camino de San Cristóbal. Moreover, this type of initiative promotes religious and cultural tourism in the locality, boosting the local economy and community pride. With the arrival of Easter, the renovation of the Via Crucis of the Camino de San Cristóbal and the Sepulcrillo hermitage will serve as a reminder of the rich tradition and devotion in Herencia, offering a space for reflection and spiritual connection for all those who follow this centuries-old route.
