The CEIP Carrasco Alcalde de Herencia has contributed this morning to local reforestation in an activity promoted by the City Council to commemorate World Tree Day, which is celebrated on March 21st. In a gesture of commitment to the environment, the first-grade students have put their hands in the ground to plant new tree specimens in the non-urban park of Sierra de la Horca.
By planting 50 trees including ash and acacia, the youngest residents of Herencia have brought to life a space that, thanks to their participation, will become a green lung for the enjoyment of future generations. The activity has been attended and supported by Mayor Sergio García-Navas, councilor José Manuel Bolaños, and councilor Maria Eugenia Díaz Pacheco, who have highlighted the importance of educating in respect and care towards our natural surroundings.
“It is essential to instill from an early age the love for nature and the responsibility to preserve our environment. With actions like this, we not only celebrate World Tree Day, but also actively contribute to the sustainable development of our municipality,” expressed Mayor García-Navas.
The event has been not only a practical lesson in ecology, but also an opportunity to teach the youngest the value of biodiversity and local ecology. The trees planted today will serve as shelter and sustenance for local fauna and as spaces of shade and natural beauty for the residents of Herencia.
This collective effort by the City Council and the education system highlights the community’s desire to create a greener future and promises to promote environmental awareness among citizens of all ages.
