Herencia is starting to rev up for its iconic Carnival, declared a National Tourist Interest Festival, and it does so with a poster that promises to become an icon of the celebration. The image of the “Saturday of the Anxious,” one of the most anticipated moments of these festivities, is in the hands of Alicia Martín Consuegra Martín del Campo, a young and talented 22-year-old design student from Herencia, known artistically as “Kinki En Zuecos.”
The poster is a vibrant representation of a traditional mask from Herencia, an iconic element that combines with symbols typical of street masks, such as the cudgel and the characteristic “flus flus” of water. The author has captured the essence of these figures, reminding us of those childhood moments when unknown masks splashed water, causing laughter and surprises among attendees.
A fresh and surprising perspective
Alicia opted for a downward perspective to present the mask, creating a direct connection with the viewer. “I wanted that, upon seeing it, the viewer would feel that moment of freshness and surprise so characteristic of our festival,” explains the young designer. The bright and festive colors reflect the energy and revelry of the carnival, while a white line adds dynamism and highlights the details of the illustration.
The design also includes a subtle tribute to La Mancha, with a pattern inspired by the roots of Herencia on the mask’s cloak. In addition, the olive green background pays homage to the olive, an emblematic fruit of the region.
Career and passion for art
At just 22 years old, Alicia has demonstrated notable artistic maturity. Her passion for illustration began at the age of 11 and has consolidated throughout her training in artistic baccalaureate and a higher degree in illustration. “Art has always been my way of expressing thoughts, feelings, and ideals,” she affirms.
Her style, full of freshness and creativity, has found in the Carnival of Herencia a unique opportunity to connect with her roots and share her vision of this festival so deeply rooted in the community.
The Saturday of the Anxious, a Carnival milestone
The poster will be the central image of the “Saturday of the Anxious,” which will take place on February 22, 2025 at 11:45 p.m. on Constitution Avenue, popularly known as “El Roce.” This event marks the beginning of one of the most anticipated moments of the Herencia carnival: the welcome of the Herencian New Year, a parody of the traditional New Year’s Eve chimes in which grapes are replaced by pieces of utrera ring cake, a typical product of the town.
The Carnival of Herencia, declared a National Tourist Interest Festival, continues to establish itself as one of the most original and participatory celebrations in Spain. With Alicia’s design as its standard-bearer, the 2025 edition promises to be a tribute to tradition, creativity, and the identity of a town that experiences carnival with passion and pride.
A poster that not only announces a party but also tells a story: that of Herencia, its masks, its people, and its carnival spirit.
