Herencia City Hall installs video surveillance cameras to reinforce citizen safety.

The City Council of Herencia has begun installing new video surveillance cameras in the Plaza de la Virgen, in accordance with Organic Law 4/1997 and with authorization from the Subdelegation of the Government in the province of Ciudad Real. These devices, used by security forces in public places, aim to improve citizen safety in the locality.

The new fixed video sensors will allow the Local Police control room to immediately detect infringements. Mayor Sergio García-Navas and Urbanism Councillor Francisco Gallego de la Sacristana visited the installation area this morning and highlighted the usefulness of the cameras.

García-Navas stated that these recordings, made 24 hours a day, will allow for more efficient actions, increase a sense of security among citizens, and deter possible infringements and crimes such as thefts and robberies. With this measure, the Herencia City Council seeks to reinforce safety in the city and protect its inhabitants.

Video Surveillance Cameras are Useful in Cities

Video surveillance cameras can be useful in cities for several reasons:

1. Prevention of crimes: The presence of cameras can deter potential criminals from committing crimes, as they know that their actions could be recorded and used as evidence against them.
2. Assistance in investigation and resolution of crimes: If a crime occurs, images captured by video surveillance cameras can be used by security forces to identify and arrest the perpetrators, as well as to support investigations and judicial processes.
3. Monitoring of traffic and road safety: Video surveillance cameras can help monitor traffic flow, identify congestion, and facilitate decision-making to improve urban mobility. They can also be useful in detecting traffic infringements and preventing accidents.
4. Improvement of perception of safety: The presence of video surveillance cameras can increase citizens’ sense of safety, making them feel more protected in their urban environment.
5. Response to emergencies: Video surveillance cameras can be used by emergency services to assess critical situations and coordinate a more efficient response.

However, it is important to note that the implementation of video surveillance cameras also raises concerns about privacy and the protection of personal data. It is essential that authorities balance the advantages of video surveillance with respect for privacy and individual rights, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
