Herencia commemorates the European Day in Memory of Victims of Terrorism with a respectful minute of silence.

On Monday, March 11, the municipality of Herencia joined in commemorating the European Day in Memory of Victims of Terrorism. At the doors of the local council, citizens and municipal representatives, led by Mayor Sergio García-Navas, gathered at 12:00 to honor the memory of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks in Madrid, 20 years ago.

The day, marked by solemnity and respect, was a demonstration of Herencia and its residents’ unwavering commitment to peace and rejection of any form of violence. The Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) called for this act of solidarity across the nation, emphasizing the importance of keeping alive the memory of the 193 deceased and all those directly or indirectly affected by the tragedy of March 11, 2004.

Mayor Sergio García-Navas, reflecting the sentiment of the entire community, shared some moving words on his social media: “We were all on that train… We have observed a minute of silence in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks on #11M. Today marks 20 years since that barbarity that we all remember as if it were yesterday.”

This brief yet significant act not only served to pay tribute to the victims and express solidarity with their families, but also to reaffirm the values of unity, strength, and resilience against terrorism. Herencia, along with the rest of Spain and Europe, remains steadfast in the defense of freedom, democracy, and the right to live in peace.
