IES Hermógenes Rodríguez participates in JUNIOR Esports.

The Culture and Education Committee of the European Parliament has presented a report which aims to establish a common strategy for the development of the video game and esports ecosystem in the European Union. This document aims to retain talent, improve the role of European institutions in these sectors, and encourage their growth.

In addition, the European Parliament has recognized that esports are a valuable educational tool for the acquisition of fundamental values by young people, such as fair play, non-discrimination, solidarity, anti-racism, social inclusion, and gender equality – values that are increasingly sought after in today’s society.

This recognition by the European Union is in line with one of the projects that GGTech Entertainment produces in the academic environment: JUNIOR Esports. The largest competition of educational centers in Spain is a consolidated project that is in the development of its sixth edition and in which more than 1,700 educational centers, more than 2,000 teachers and more than 6,000 students from all over the country participate. All students from each school or institute can compete in three different games: League of Legends, Rocket League, and Brawl Stars.

An educational center in Ciudad Real participates in JUNIOR Esports

The province of Ciudad Real is represented in the sixth season of JUNIOR Esports by:

  • IES Hermógenes Rodríguez (Herencia). It has a team that participates in League of Legends.

The competition

JUNIOR Esports is focused on gaming and is based on a system of 16 fundamental values, such as commitment, integration, or respect. Its aim is to promote education, learning, and personal development both inside and outside the classroom. In addition, the project contributes to the provision of equipment for the digitalization of classrooms with technological material, with an investment that exceeds 160,000 euros.

A new option for students and teachers

JUNIOR Esports is presented to students as an alternative to traditional extracurricular activities. This type of project, in which esports are used as a recognized educational tool, enriches the relationship between teachers and students, improving confidence with students by using their same language, as well as raising the level of demand. It is also another option for future professional opportunities as it enhances talent from an early age and stimulates students with new growth and learning opportunities linked to an entertainment and fun environment away from traditional methods.

JUNIOR Esports is made possible thanks to the support of top-level publishers such as Riot Games; Intel, which provides the latest technologies and maximum power in PC Gaming to all competitions; and VARTA Consumer Batteries, a leading brand in the manufacture of batteries, batteries, and flashlights.
