The delivery units of Correos in Ciudad Real, Manzanares, and Herencia, along with the Special Services Unit of Ciudad Real, have started an indefinite strike on Tuesday, November 21. The mobilization, organized by the Independent Trade Union and Civil Servants (CSIF) and the Free Union of Post and Telecommunications, arises in response to the critical situation of staff shortages and the resulting work overload.
The unions, in a statement, have explained that the lack of personnel in the current workforce, aggravated by the non-coverage of vacant positions due to retirements, temporary incapacities, or vacation periods, has generated an unsustainable workload. This situation has led to high levels of anxiety and stress both physically and emotionally among the employees.
In addition, a protest has been organized in front of the central headquarters of Correos in the province, coinciding with the start of the strike. The mobilizations come at a particularly critical moment, just three days before the start of the “Black Friday” campaign, followed closely by the Christmas campaign. These dates traditionally have high demand for postal services, representing an additional challenge for a staff that is already understaffed and overwhelmed.
The unions have denounced the frustration of Correos’ personnel for not being able to maintain the historically associated level of quality service with the public postal company. According to union representatives, the current situation prevents the daily distribution required by citizens, compromising the efficiency and reliability of the postal service.
With this indefinite strike, Correos workers seek to draw attention to the urgent need to strengthen the workforce and improve working conditions, in order to continue providing an essential service with the quality and effectiveness that citizens deserve.
