The Holy Week of Herencia, in the province of Ciudad Real, was celebrated this year with great solemnity and splendor, thanks to the collaboration between the City Council and the five brotherhoods that make up the Holy Week of the town. The Permanent Board of Passion Brotherhoods, together with the Brotherhoods and Fraternities, worked together for the organization and realization of the processions and other religious and cultural events.
One of the novelties this year was the ornamentation and decoration of the streets through which the processions passed. The fences that separated the public from the processional floats were adorned with hangings, giving more beauty to the streets. In addition, grandstands were placed in the areas with the most public attendance, allowing attendees to comfortably enjoy the processions.
The program of Holy Week 2023 in Herencia included a wide variety of religious and cultural events, such as the penitential Way of the Cross, triduums, Brotherhood masses, proclamations, and representations of the Lord’s Passion. Among the outstanding events were the Primary Function of Good Friday and the Procession of “La Borriquilla,” which attracted numerous faithful and visitors in an atmosphere of fervor and devotion.
The events were held at different locations, such as the Immaculate Conception Parish Church, the La Labradora hermitage, the San Bartolomé Parish Church, and the Merced Convent. The Board of Passion Brotherhoods, with the collaboration of the City Council through the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real, was in charge of printing the materials and disseminating the program.
Mayor Sergio García-Navas expressed his satisfaction with the joint work between the City Council and the Brotherhoods, which allowed “to increase the cultural dimension of the events and make it easier for the Holy Week of Herencia to be carried out brilliantly.”
Holy Week 2023 in Herencia was an unforgettable experience, enriched by the collaboration between institutions and the community, and the joint effort to enhance the religious and cultural celebrations in honor of the Sacred Titles. Undoubtedly, this event left a pleasant memory in the hearts of attendees and will be remembered as an example of fervor and tradition in the town.
