Several members of the Local Police of Herencia have filed a lawsuit against the Herencia City Council through the legal advice of CSIF Ciudad Real for violating their labor rights, obliging them by mayoral decree to carry out extraordinary services generated by the poor management and organization of the City Council.
The union, which has filed several administrative lawsuits against the Herencia City Council in the Court of Ciudad Real, regrets the inaction and neglect of the Municipal Corporation, as well as the constant obstacles imposed, which have made negotiations fruitless.
Currently, the Herencia City Council has a staff of 15 police officers and 1 officer. Of these 15 positions, only 9 are filled “due to the poor management of the Municipal Corporation,” said the provincial head of CSIF Ciudad Real in the Local Administration sector, Toñi Fernández, generating an increase in extraordinary services that, in many cases, “are not feasible to cover and leave the citizens of Herencia without security guarantees.”
This is the case during the summer season when the officers, like any other worker, have rest days and scheduled holidays. Holidays that the City Council prevents them from enjoying by imposing them by decree, as the staff would be reduced to only four or five officers during that period.
“Without a doubt, the rights of the workers are being violated, since, on some occasions, officers who were already enjoying their holidays have been forced to work,” Fernández concludes.
