The installation of the lighting system in the three windmills of the Sierra de San Cristóbal is progressing well. Once completed, these three windmills will be connected to the ones in the Sierra de la Horca so that all the windmills in the town will have artistic lighting. The chosen lighting system consists of low-power LED luminaires and a control system to reproduce scenes and lighting effects.
The execution budget for this project is 161,715.45 euros, of which 89% will be financed by the Local Action Group Mancha Norte “Development and Innovation”, plus 17,788.70 euros of own funds. This is a commitment from the current Government to continue investing in inland tourism, which attracts visitors from all over the country to generate wealth and stimulate the local economy.
On Monday, Mayor Sergio García-Navas, José Juan Fernández Zarco, the General Director of Rural Development, Amparo Bremard, the Provincial Delegate for Agriculture, Water and Development, and councilors Conchi Rodríguez-Palancas and Francisco Gallego de la Sacristana visited the area and the crest of the Sierra de San Cristóbal, where the Ama, Sobrina, and Dulcinea windmills are located. In just a few days, they will be added to the new nocturnal vision that their lighting will offer.
García-Navas stated that “with this project, we undeniably boost the tourist appeal of the Herencian windmills, historical monuments that are related to the Quixotic tradition and become a fundamental piece of the tourism strategy we are working on, which has been bringing so much success to the town.” Resources such as Quhesalia, which continues to receive visitors from different parts of the country, or the Sierra de la Horca park, with increasing participation from residents and visitors, validate this claim. We are confident that with the new lighting, the windmills will be part of these tourist attractions.”
