The Health Service of Castilla-La Mancha (SESCAM) has announced the addition of two new medical and nursing professionals to the healthcare center in Herencia. This measure will allow the opening of a new Primary Care consultation and relieve the current pressure experienced by the professionals at the center.
The Delegate of the Board of Communities in Ciudad Real, Carmen Teresa Olmedo, and the Delegate of the Department of Health, Francisco José García, informed the Mayor of Herencia, Sergio García-Navas, of this decision, thereby fulfilling President García-Page’s commitment to improve healthcare assistance in the municipality and reduce the number of health cards per physician to less than 1,750, as agreed with the Spanish Medical Syndicates Confederation. With this expansion, the ratio in Herencia will decrease from the current 1,850 cards per doctor to approximately 1,400.
Olmedo emphasized that Primary Care is essential for Castilla-La Mancha, as it represents 28% of the total budget allocated to healthcare in the region, surpassing the national average of 15% and the 25% recommended by the World Health Organization.
During the meeting, Mayor García-Navas expressed concern about the limited space of the current health center with the addition of these new professionals and requested Olmedo’s assistance in constructing a new building. The Mayor confirmed that the Municipality of Herencia has several available plots of land for the new center’s construction and requested that SESCAM technicians visit the locality to assess which one would be most suitable.
This expansion of the healthcare center’s staff in Herencia reflects the commitment of regional authorities to improve healthcare and ensure adequate access to Primary Care in the municipality. The future construction of a new health center would allow us to meet the growing demand and provide better service to citizens.
