On December 6th, within the framework of the celebration of Constitution Day, the Patio of the Herencia City Council was the setting for a solemn event to commemorate the 46th Anniversary of the Spanish Constitution. The ceremony had the participation of the Municipal Corporation and a significant involvement of local educational centers, highlighting the importance of this date in the democratic history of the country.
An event marked by pluralism and youth participation
The first part of the event was led by speeches from spokespersons of the political groups represented in the City Council. Both the Popular Party and the PSOE took the floor, while Vox decided not to participate in the session dedicated to the Constitution.
Next, students from local schools and educational centers Picazuelo and Carpe Diem had the opportunity to share reflections and readings related to the democratic values enshrined in the 1978 Constitution. The participation of young people brought freshness and depth to the event, emphasizing the fundamental role of education in transmitting civic values.
Recognition of academic effort
The event also served as a framework for the presentation of scholarships to the top academic records of 2nd year of high school at IES Hermógenes Rodríguez. This recognition, awarded by the City Council, highlights the commitment to educational excellence and the effort of the students who represent the future of the locality. The awardees received their scholarships amid applause from the attendees, who publicly recognized their dedication and perseverance.
A message of unity and progress
The Mayor of Herencia, Sergio García Navas, closed the event with words addressed to the present residents. In his speech, the mayor emphasized the importance of this day as a symbol of unity and progress above political or ideological differences. “Today we celebrate the spirit of harmony that made our Constitution possible, a document that has allowed us to progress as a society in peace, equality, and rights for all,” he said.
The mayor also thanked the active participation of citizens, especially young people, who were the main protagonists of the event. “They are responsible for keeping democratic values alive in future generations,” he added.
A day to remember the importance of the Constitution
December 6th is a key date in the Spanish calendar, as it commemorates the approval in a referendum of the 1978 Constitution, which laid the foundations of democracy in the country. In Herencia, this commemoration is observed with respect and solemnity, as a moment to reflect on the achievements made and the challenges that still lie ahead.
The event held in the Patio of the City Council was, once again, a demonstration of Herencia’s commitment to constitutional values and the importance of keeping the memory of that historic December 6th, 1978 alive.
