Herencia presents the 2nd edition of the International Cheese Day.

From March 24th to 26th, the 2nd commemorative edition of International Cheese Day is being celebrated, one of the leading agri-food products in Herencia. For this reason, the Rural Development department has presented a program of activities that aim to showcase and promote cheese, gastronomy, and the agri-food sector of the locality as a tourist resource, within the activities promoted through the “Quhesalia” Interpretation Center.

The events will begin on Friday 24th with the Tasting Sessions in the evening, where participants can taste different products and preparations with Herencia cheese as the protagonist, which are recommended to be paired with local wines. The participating establishments are Ja.bali Gastrobar, Pizzeria Romero, Mascaraque Olivo, and La Pintona Craft Beer Bar. The tasting session will be available from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th. Additionally, participants will enter a prize draw for Herencia products.

On Saturday 25th March at 12 pm, there will be a guided tour of the Gómez Moreno cheese factory, where visitors can witness the care and attention put into the production of their products. The tour includes a small tasting at the end.

Later in the afternoon, it’s time for the children to participate in a cheese-making workshop, where they can learn about the production process firsthand and take home their creations to enjoy. Additionally, they will learn about the different types of aging, all within the Quhesalia facilities.

On Sunday 26th, it’s time to learn about local products. Expert Mario Román Esteban will lead a tasting where cheeses from the five local cheese factories with their different particularities will be sampled. The event will take place at the La Encarnación – Grupo Montes Norte oil press plant. Participants will learn about the different textures, flavors, and aromas of each cheese type. With the entry to this event, children aged 4 to 10 will have access to children’s animations and games inspired by cheese culture. Therefore, booking a spot will be necessary when purchasing the event ticket.

Tickets for the guided tour, cheese-making workshop, or commented tasting will be available from March 15th at Casa de Herencia from 10 am to 2 pm and must be acquired in person.

Gabriel Carrero Díaz-Meco, Councillor for Rural Development and Environment, stated that “the second edition of these sessions aims to establish International Cheese Day as a reference weekend, where visitors can learn about our agri-food sector and its traditions, taste and enjoy our magnificent products in a small range of dining options, to establish Herencia as a destination for visitors and a guarantee of quality for its products.”
